HON. MAYOR SONIA TORRES AQUINO is the second child of successful businessman Antonio Tapia Torres and Leonila Carandang Laurena, both of Tanauan City. She completed her elementary and secondary education in Tanauan and graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Commerce, Major in Banking and Finance from University of the East in Manila.

She worked as a bank employee and thereafter ventured into different businesses, among which were the following: Torres Auto Supply (Assistant Manager); Ann Hernson garments (President/Owner); Sonia T. Aquino Couture House (Owner); Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing Inc. (Director); Torres trading Company Inc. (Managing Director); Mt. Makiling Rural Bank Inc. (Founder, Director); St. Cabrini Medical Center (Founder, Director) and Abarti Artworks (Founder, Director).

She is happily married to Atty. Hernani S. Aquino, a successful businessman. They have four children: Anneli Aquino-Bengzon (Businesswoman), Dr. Jose Hernani T. Aquino ( Cardiologist, based in the U.S.), Therese Aquino Ick (HR Manager, based in California, U.S.A.) and Paul T. Aquino (Art Manager, based in New York, U.S.A.) Her siblings are Mrs. Nila Torres-Rafer (Vice President of Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing Inc.) and Mr. Feliciano “Thotie” L. Torres (President and General Manager, Yazaki-Torres Mfg. Inc.)  Sonia Torres Aquino was involved in many civic organizations locally and even abroad, among which are the following: Capitol Jaycees (1980); Samahang Batangueña, Tanauan Chapter (2002); Tanauan Ladies Circle (2002-2003); Filipino Professionals and Businessman Association of San Francisco U.S.A. (1990) and Batangueños of Northern California San Francisco U.S.A. (President,1995).

COMMUNITY INITIATIVES: 

Prior to her joining the political fray, HON. MAYOR SONIA TORRES AQUINO, as Community Relations Director of Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing Inc., was involved in various community initiatives in Calamba City, Tanauan City and in the towns of the Malvar, Talisay and Sto. Tomas, all in the Province of Batangas. Among these are the following:
